Red Flags in Autism

Symptoms of autism are not always apparent at birth, and may emerge as a child’s capacity for social interaction and communication develops.

  1. Delayed Speech Development: Children with autism may exhibit delayed speech or have difficulty in verbal communication.
  2. Social Interaction Challenges: Difficulty in maintaining eye contact, interpreting social cues, or engaging in conversations.
  3. Repetitive Behaviors: Repetitive movements like hand-flapping, rocking, or insistence on sameness in routines.
  4. Sensory Sensitivities: Heightened sensitivities to sensory input such as loud noises, bright lights, or certain textures.
  5. Lack of Emotional Response: Difficulty in expressing emotions or understanding others’ emotions might be seen in individuals with autism.
  6. Fixation on Specific Interests: Intense focus on specific topics or objects, can be a sign of autism.
  7. Unusual Body Language: Unusual body postures, gestures, or facial expressions may also be observed in individuals with autism.
